All punting is now firmly controlled by permits, as the area in now a local nature reserve. My first outings (and attempts) were from Patrington Haven (the same as used by Stanly Duncan who went on to form WAGBI later to become BASC). Any outing from this haven has to coincide with fairly high (spring) tides that coincide with first and last light requiring about 11+ hours afloat. going out with the morning tide and returning with the evening tide. After 6 hours afloat the area did not show us 1 duck. Despite the obvious disappointment at not firing the big gun, the outing was still great fun, and with a suitable invitation would readily be repeated.
